Project Description

Steel Joists used in airport hangarKey Aviation at Anoka, MN airport was the name of the project. The Owner requested a 76,000 SF hangar for private jets. The project was to be completed in 4 month for the Republican Convention in September. Because of the need store as many corporate jets as possible the owner wanted no columns and an enviroment clean enough to eat off.

What Makes This Project Interesting

What makes this project interesting: The Owner first came to Kraus Anderson looking for a 76,000 sf metal fab type building. But, after carefully reviewing the owner needs of deep bays (125 feet) and three large door openings (130 feet) Kraus Anderson suggested a precast wall panel with large span structural steel. By changing the system from metal fab building to structural long span and precast we where able to save over $500,000 in cost and reduce delivery time by 2 months.

Advantages Of The Chosen Structural System

The advantage was a system that allowed the owner to park dozens of private jets and not worry about hitting columns. After painting the precast walls and structural steel also gave the owner and their clients a very clean and crisp look. The delivery time also allowed the building to open on time and park jets - Time is money!

Project Scope

The hangar was 66,000 SF of with another 10,000 sf of office bays for clients to lease out and do repais or a charter offices. The building was 35 feet high at it's talles point. Overall dimensions was 528' x 125' for the hangar and 250' x 40' for the offices.
